As a Florida Maternity Photographer, I’m here to make this process easy, fun, and memorable. Your maternity session is such a beautiful way to celebrate the incredible season of life you’re in. It’s about honoring your journey, your growing family, and the love that’s already so abundant.

Here are my best tips for preparing for your maternity session so you can feel confident, relaxed, and absolutely stunning!

1. Choosing the Perfect Gown

When you book your session, you’ll gain access to my Maternity Closet, a curated collection of stunning gowns designed to make you feel beautiful and comfortable.

  • Start with the Style You Love: Flowy gowns create soft, romantic movement, while fitted dresses highlight your bump in an elegant and timeless way.
  • Pick Colors That Photograph Beautifully: Earth tones, neutrals, and soft pastels always look incredible. They compliment the natural light and keep the focus on connection.
  • Create Your Favorites List: Browse the collection and choose a few options you love. You can share your favorites with me, and I’ll help you select the perfect gown for your location and vibe.

The right gown can truly transform how you feel during your session, and when you feel confident and comfortable, it shines through in your photos.

2. Preparing the Family

Including your partner and little ones makes your maternity session even more special—it’s a celebration of your growing family, after all! Here’s how to make styling and preparing them stress-free:

  • Coordinate, Don’t Match: Start with your gown and build from there. Neutral tones (like beige, cream, gray, and soft browns), earth tones, and natural textures always look timeless and photograph beautifully.
  • Keep It Simple: Avoid loud patterns, logos, or overly bright colors, as these can distract from the emotion and connection in your photos. Soft solids and subtle textures are always a great choice.
  • Comfort is Key: Choose outfits your family feels comfortable in—clothes that allow movement and feel like them. A little one pulling at an itchy sweater or a partner feeling out of place in stiff clothes can take away from the experience.
  • Dress Ahead of Time: Lay out all outfits the night before to ensure everything is clean, steamed, and ready to go. This will save you stress on the day of the session.

For little ones, bring a small “bribe” if needed—a non-messy snack or treat can be a lifesaver! Let them know the session will be fun and quick, and I’ll make sure to keep the experience light, relaxed, and playful.

3. What to Bring to Your Maternity Session

Being prepared can make all the difference in creating a relaxed, smooth experience. Here’s a checklist of items you might want to bring:

  • Water & Snacks: Especially if little ones are joining you—small, mess-free snacks (like crackers or dried fruit) help keep everyone happy.
  • A Comfortable Change of Shoes: While you’ll look stunning in your chosen gown, a pair of comfy flats or sandals will help if we’re walking to a specific location.
  • Personal Touches: Bring any items that hold sentimental value, such as:
    • Ultrasound photos
    • A baby blanket or stuffed animal
    • A meaningful piece of jewelry
These small details can add an extra layer of meaning to your photos.
  • Touch-Up Essentials: A small bag with lip balm, tissues, and a brush can come in handy for quick touch-ups during the session.

If you’re including little ones, a favorite small toy can be helpful to keep them engaged and happy while we capture those sweet family moments.

4. Relax and Trust the Process

This session is about you—your strength, beauty, and the love you share with your family. I’ll guide you through gentle posing and natural prompts that focus on connection, movement, and authentic moments. Don’t worry about perfection—your love is what makes these photos perfect.

Take a deep breath, embrace the joy of this season, and let me do the rest. You deserve to feel celebrated and radiant, and my goal is to make sure you leave your session feeling exactly that.

Your maternity session is more than just photos—it’s a way to preserve this beautiful chapter of your life so you can look back and remember it all. If you have any questions about wardrobe, location, or anything in between, I’m always here to help. Let’s make this an experience you’ll treasure forever.

I’m a movement loving, people celebrating, emotion chasing wedding photographer based in North Central Florida. I work with couples who are done with expectations and ready to build a celebration that feels layered, intentional, and completely their own.

I’m part visual storyteller, part steady planner, part calm in the middle of the whirlwind. Because incredible wedding days don’t come from a template. They’re shaped with care and intention. With me, you’ll always know what’s next, where to step, and when to just breathe it in. And if your hair decides to do its own thing, I’ll catch that too.
